JASON FLANAGAN, YORK SEX OFFENDER, HAS SENTENCE REDUCED BY THE COURT OF APPEAL
In February 2019, York sex offender Jason Flanagan saw his prison sentence shortened after an appeal to the Court of Appeal.The court upheld the other components of his sentencing related to possessing indecent images of children.
Flanagan, 32, who provided addresses in Huntington and Clifton during his initial court appearance in 2017, was originally sentenced in March 2018 to 21 months in prison, suspended for two years.
Additionally, he was mandated to complete 120 hours of unpaid work, participate in 20 days of rehabilitative activities focused on his sexual behavior, and was subject to a sexual harm prevention order allowing police to monitor his internet use for a decade.
He challenged his sentence, prompting the Court of Appeal to review the case.
Subsequently, three judges reduced his prison term to 10 and a half months, suspended for two years.
During the 2018 Crown Court hearing, it was revealed that police discovered videos depicting child abuse on Flanagan’s computer and found search terms he used online related to finding sexual images of children.
His legal representative, Barrister Glenn Parsons, stated that Flanagan expressed shame over his actions and noted that his involvement with the illegal material was brief.
