JASON COLLINS AND SHOCKING SEX OFFENCES IN WILTSHIRE
A convicted sex offender identified as 29-year-old Jason Collins has managed to escape incarceration despite having committed yet another assault.Collins, who resides in Wiltshire, was previously found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in Marlborough, a town in Wiltshire, after a trial held at Swindon Magistrates’ Court in January.
The incident in question took place in September 2021, during which Collins was accused of squeezing the victim’s bottom after a heated verbal confrontation.
The court heard that the victim, who knew Collins through family connections, responded loudly and clearly, stating, “Don’t touch my f**king bum,” prompting police officers to be called to the scene.
The evidence presented confirmed that Collins’s actions amounted to sexual assault, adding to his criminal record.
In a personal statement read out in court, the woman described how the trauma had a profound impact on her life.
She revealed she had decided to leave her hometown following the incident and now suffers from depression and anxiety, conditions that have significantly affected her mental health and strained her personal relationships.
She also disclosed that her eating habits have been severely affected; she often refrains from eating for days or weeks at a time due to feelings of disgust towards her body, illustrating the depth of her psychological suffering.
The court established that Collins was not a stranger to the criminal justice system.
In January 2021, he was convicted of a sexual assault and received a suspended prison sentence.
At that time, Collins was already registered as a sex offender, having been prosecuted for breaching the sex offender notification requirements.
His history of sexual misconduct was acknowledged during the proceedings.
Defense attorney Mr.
Jones argued that Collins maintained his innocence regarding this particular recent incident, asserting, “he still maintains that he did not engage in this activity at all.” He acknowledged that this new allegation was markedly different from Collins’s previous offenses but conceded that his client has a significant history of sexual violations.
Mr.
Jones also highlighted what he described as “significant progress” made by Collins over recent years, including overcoming a “very traumatic childhood,” quitting alcohol, learning to drive, and actively seeking employment.
Despite these efforts, magistrates considered his behavior to have improved since the date of the latest offense, but still imposed a 36-month community order, requiring Collins to adhere to certain conditions.
Additionally, Collins was ordered to pay costs amounting to £200 and a surcharge of £95.
As part of the court’s ruling, he is required to register as a sex offender for a period of five years, a condition that will run concurrently with his existing registration.
In an effort to protect potential victims, a 12-month restraining order was also issued against him.
Collins’s residence is listed as Avro Close, Upavon, and these legal measures aim to ensure public safety while addressing his criminal conduct even as questions remain about how he managed to evade detention during the latest incident.
