Polesworth Child Sexual Abuser
In May 2014, Jason Abbott, a 31-year-old man from Rowland Avenue in Polesworth, was sentenced to three years in prison after admitting to sex offenses involving a girl in foster care. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life by Warwick Crown Court.

Abbott pleaded guilty to three charges of sexual activity with a minor, including two counts of intercourse and one count of causing the girl to perform oral sex.

Prosecutor Tom Kenning explained that the offences were discovered after the girl ran away from home and was placed in foster care. It was then revealed that she had engaged in sexual activity with Abbott, who maintained, “He never made me do anything I didn’t want to do.”

When Abbott was arrested, he admitted to having sex with her in his bedroom about eight times, including oral sex, but claimed he only became aware of her age when police came to his home the previous week searching for her.

Defence lawyer Lee Marklew stated that Abbott was suffering from serious physical and mental health issues at the time. He explained that Abbott had kidney problems since the age of 14, which led to the failure of one kidney, forcing him to leave his job and causing his relationship to break down. Additionally, Abbott underwent dialysis three or four times a week and was suffering from depression during the period of the offences.

Since his arrest, Abbott has received a kidney transplant. Despite knowing her age when they started their sexual relationship, Abbott had met the girl through a friend.

Addressing the court, Judge Sylvia de Bertodano emphasized that even though the girl, aged 15, had consented, Abbott had taken advantage of her and bore responsibility for his actions.
