HAWICK YOUTH PLEADS GUILTY TO THREATENING AND ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR IN CAR
A Hawick man involved in a violent incident with his then-partner while she was driving a car has been placed under supervision for the next six months at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.Twenty-year-old Janson Redpath admitted to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner in a vehicle on the A7 near Stow, as well as at her residence in Hawick on December 10.Prosecutor Fiona Hamilton explained that an argument had developed regarding a male friend she had made, and Redpath had threatened her, saying: “I will grab the steering wheel and kill both of us.”The court was told that Redpath then removed his seatbelt, leaned out of the car, but the victim managed to brake suddenly to prevent further escalation.Subsequently, the couple went to her home, where a further argument ensued, with Redpath wanting her to block the male friend from her phone.
During this altercation, Redpath grabbed her phone, threw items around her house, and involved himself with a large bread knife, which caused cuts to his neck. The court noted that the couple was no longer together, but a one-year non-harassment order was issued against Redpath, along with a supervision order for six months.
