JAMIE WRIGHT FROM CHORLEY SENTENCED FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGES AND SEXUAL HARM ORDER

In July 2020, a man from Chorley, identified as Jamie Scott Wright, was handed a significant sentence following his involvement in the possession and distribution of indecent images of children. Wright, aged 31 and residing on Durham Drive in Buckshaw Village, was arrested after police investigations uncovered his deliberate searches for, creation of, and sharing of highly inappropriate and illegal images involving minors on his personal computer equipment.

During the court proceedings, Judge Simon Medland QC emphasized the severity of the crimes committed by Wright. He ordered Wright to be placed on the Sex Offender’s Register for a period of ten years, highlighting the gravity of the offenses. The judge stated, “Some of the children depicted were very young. Many of the images—more than 350—were classified as the most serious category, and there were over 2,500 other images.”

Judge Medland further explained the disturbing nature of the images, noting, “These are real images of real children being abused. The impact on these children could last a lifetime.” Despite the seriousness of the case, the judge acknowledged Wright’s cooperation with law enforcement. When police searched his residence, he was fully cooperative and assisted by providing passwords to his devices, which was considered a mitigating factor.

Wright pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images, one count of possessing a prohibited image of a child, and an additional charge involving an extreme image that included animals. Due to his early guilty pleas and cooperation, the judge decided to suspend the prison sentence of two years, which would have otherwise been imposed.

In addition to the jail term, Wright was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that will remain in effect for ten years. This order imposes strict restrictions on his access to the internet and related devices, aiming to prevent further offenses. He was also placed under an electronically tagged curfew and ordered to pay costs amounting to £700. Furthermore, the court ordered the forfeiture and destruction of Wright’s computers and phones to prevent any further misuse of such devices.

Overall, this case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the distribution of child exploitation material and protect vulnerable victims from ongoing harm.
