JAMIE WHILLER SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS IN STOKE-ON-TRENT FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES
Rapist Jamie Whiller has been sentenced to eight years in prison. The 35-year-old ex-squad soldier assaulted his teenage victim, who was 16 at the time.
His actions caused the young girl, described as vulnerable, to suffer from sleep issues, stress, and anxiety.
The abuse was reported to her mother, which led to police involvement.
Whiller, formerly residing on High Street, Tunstall, was convicted at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.
Prosecutor Stefan Kolodynski stated that the defendant 'forced' himself upon his victim and engaged in unprotected sex with her.
The case came to light after the victim confided in her mother about what had happened.
Although Whiller initially admitted to having sex with the girl when she was 16, he denied committing rape, claiming the encounter was consensual.
However, he later pleaded guilty to two charges of rape and another serious sexual offence.
During mitigation, Caroline Harris explained that Whiller is deeply distressed by the impact of his actions.
She said, "It has affected his employment.
He has been called names in the street and publicly at nights out.
It has resulted in the loss of his job, his home, and he has moved to the south coast." She further noted that Whiller served in the Army from age 18 to 25 and has sought to lead a hard-working, respectable life.
She added, "He made an attempt on his life last year, such is the remorse and regret he feels." Deputy Circuit Judge Paul Glenn issued an indefinite restraining order preventing Whiller from contacting his victim for the rest of his life.
He criticized Whiller's suggestion in the pre-sentence report that "she came on to me," describing it as 'distasteful.' The judge emphasized, "You knew that child was vulnerable.
By your pleas, you now accept she did not consent on two occasions.
She submitted to your demands.
You used her to satisfy your sexual appetite." The judge described the lasting effects on the victim, including anxiety, depression, and anger, and noted how her relationship with boyfriends has been affected.
Whiller will serve two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for release, will remain on the sex offenders' register indefinitely, and is barred from activities involving children and vulnerable adults.
