CHAMPION GUNDOG TRAINER TURNED HARASSER CONVICTED OF HARASSMENT

A man named Jamie Smith, aged 48, who gained fame as a champion gundog trainer after winning a Kennel Club competition at the royal Sandringham Estate and meeting the Queen, has been convicted of harassment.

Following his achievement in January 2018, Smith's behavior turned aggressive and obsessive, especially towards Cara Craven, a woman he met shortly after his meeting with the Queen.

Cara reported that Smith started going through her phone, refused to leave her alone, and flew into jealous rages, such as pulling the handbrake while driving to terrify her.

He also caused her to nearly lose control of her van on the road.

Their relationship was marked by volatility, including Smith flying into anger when Cara showed kindness to others, and attempting to control her financial and social interactions.

Cara eventually left Smith and reported him to police, with him being handed an 18-month community order and required to do 80 hours of unpaid work at Lincoln Crown Court in December 2020.

Smith admitted to harassment, but the charges of controlling and coercive behavior were not proven.

Cara, who has now joined a charity helping women harassed by partners, described Smith as turning into ‘a monster’ after his fame.

She highlighted the impact of his violent and controlling behavior, including going through her phone during hospital stays and demanding her to close her own bank accounts.

Smith's actions resulted in the conviction and a community order, marking a serious legal outcome for his conduct.
