JAMIE MACPHERSON SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS IN PRISON IN BEDFORD FOR ABHORRENT CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES
A man from Walsall in the West Midlands, Jamie Macpherson, 46, traveled nearly 90 miles to Bedford with the intent to sexually abuse an 11-year-old child. He was sentenced to five years in prison at Luton Crown Court on Thursday, January 21.
Macpherson was arrested at Bedford Train Station shortly after arriving in Bedford, Bedfordshire, on June 18 of the previous year.
During his arrest, police discovered he was in possession of two hard drives containing an extensive collection of indecent images of children.
These images included Category A material, which involves penetrative sexual activity, sexual acts with animals, or sadism.
Investigators described these images as some of the worst and most abhorrent child sexual abuse material they have ever encountered.
Following his arrest, Macpherson admitted to facilitating and arranging child sexual offences, possessing indecent images of children with intent to show or distribute, and distributing such images in relation to offences committed in the West Midlands.
His five-year sentence includes three years for offences in Bedfordshire, with an additional two years, to run consecutively, for the West Midlands offences.
He was also issued an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Macpherson’s plans to travel to Bedford were uncovered during a proactive operation conducted by the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit.
After his arrest, digital media investigators played a vital role in extracting evidence from the hard drives.
Investigation Officer Paul Baddeley from Bedfordshire Police’s Cyber Hub commented, “Macpherson is an extremely dangerous offender who has travelled a long way from his home with a clear intent to sexually abuse a child.
Following his arrest, he was found in possession of huge amounts of indecent images of children.
Some of these have been described as some of the worst and most abhorrent child sexual abuse material the investigation team have ever seen.
Thanks to close collaboration with our colleagues at West Midlands Police and the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit, this horrific offender will be locked up away from our communities and children he could pose a risk to.” He added, “We are seeing an ever-increasing number of referrals of this nature, and we would like to remind parents and guardians of the importance of ensuring children know how to stay safe online.
Any child can become a victim of grooming, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or background.
If you suspect this might be happening to someone you know, it’s crucial to speak out and seek help from a trusted adult.”
