February 2021 ‘They are images of the worst kind of depravity, cruelty and harm’ A dad who had hundreds of indecent images of children on two mobile phones has been warned he must address whatever compelled him to act in an “utterly appalling way”. Police found the still images and videos on two mobile phones belonging to Jamie Ingham after visiting his home in Moston. He initially tried to hide his mobile phone and later tried to delete evidence, Manchester Crown Court heard. Sentencing Ingham, 31, Recorder Anthony O’Donohoe said: “These are not just virtual images on the internet. They are images of the worst kind of depravity, cruelty and harm. “Real children out there in the world are suffering because of the appetite for this sort of content.” Ingham’s email address first came to the attention of officers investigating indecent images of children in the summer of 2019, Manchester Crown Court heard. As a result officers executed a warrant at his home on Scarborough Street, in Moston, that July, when Ingham was seen attempting to hide his mobile phone. He was arrested and interviewed by police but refused to provide the password to the phone. He was released under investigation but arrested again in November 2019 for possession of indecent images. At that point officers found a second phone, which contained unlawful images, and again seized both phones. A total of 291 Category A, 157 category B and 400 category C images and videos were found on the devices. The court heard that the images depicted children aged between three and 13-years-old. In one image a child between the age of three and six was naked and ‘visibly upset’, the court heard. Ingham gave no comment when interviewed by police, who discovered that he had tried to delete evidence from his phone. Ingham, 31, from Moston, pleaded guilty to possession of indecent images of children. Recorder Anthony O’Donohoe handed Ingham a three-year community order and three years of supervision during which he must attend a sex offenders’ group programme. He was also made the subject of a ten-year sexual harm prevention order, ordered to carry out 250 hours of unpaid work and 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days.
