Jamie Hackett

Middleport Sexual Abuser

August 2011 Man, 20, jailed after having sex with girl, aged 13 SEX offender Jamie Hackett has been jailed for four-and-a-half years after he had sex with an underage girl. Prosecutor Graeme Simpson yesterday told Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court that Hackett was aged 20 when he asked his 13-year-old victim if she would go out with him. The court heard that on January 9 Hackett asked her what sort of wedding she would like and talked about a condom on display in his room. “She told him she was a virgin and felt ready for sex,” said Mr Simpson. “He asked her if she was sure and she said ‘Yes’. “They had intercourse.” The court heard they had intercourse again on January 15. Hackett again used a condom but it split. “She was worried about that,” said Mr Simpson. “And six days later she disclosed to her mentor at school what had been going on.” The information was passed on to a child protection officer at the school, the police and the girl’s parents. Hackett was arrested on January 26. He denied anything sexual had taken place but did admit they had kissed a few times. But Hackett, of Dalehall Gardens, Middleport, who is now aged 21, pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual activity with a child. The court was told he has previous convictions for sexual activity with a male child and sexual activity with a female child under the age of 16 when he was aged 17 and the victim was aged 15. Peter McCartney, mitigating, said Hackett had a dysfunctional upbringing and has severe difficulties in relating to other people, as well as low self worth and a distrust of others. He added that Hackett did not force himself on the girl or on his last victim. Jailing Hackett, Judge Simon Tonking said: “You were then 20 and she was aged 13. You and she had sex and I accept she was completely willing for that to happen and I accept you asked her if she was sure she wanted it and she said she was. “But, even with all your difficulties, you knew you should not be having sex with that girl because somebody who is 13 is too young to have sex with anybody. “You and she had sex on two occasions. She probably would not have said anything about it except the condom burst. “Your case is made very much more serious because of your previous offences.” But Judge Tonking said he did not deal with Hackett as a dangerous offender as he could not be satisfied he presents a significant risk of serious harm by committing similar offences. However he made him the subject of an indefinite sexual offences prevention order and Hackett will be on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely. And he was disqualified from working with children and barred from a range of activities involving children.
