DEPRAVED PAEDOPHILE PAIR 'TOOK TURNS' RAPING BOY, 13
John Cox and Jamie Cross, both in their late 30s, were convicted of raping a 13-year-old boy, with the crimes occurring in 2005 and their subsequent arrest taking place years later. The young victim suffered for years, eventually collecting evidence including a Facebook message where one defendant admitted to the abuse.
The jury found both men guilty of two counts each of the sexual assault.
In a personal statement, the victim shared feelings of anger and described the trauma's impact on his education and mental health, including nightmares featuring the faces of his assailants.
He also recounted feeling fear and disgust when reconnecting online years later.
Despite denying the allegations, evidence showed Cross acknowledged the sexual acts via texts, which was presented in court.
Both men received 12-year prison sentences and were placed under lifelong sexual harm prevention orders.
They are also required to register their addresses with police and are permanently prohibited from working with children.
The judge described their abuse as a severe breach of trust, noting the careful planning involved, and condemned their lack of remorse despite previous convictions for child pornography, which had resulted in suspended sentences.
The prosecution revealed that the victim met the defendants during their first aid work at public events and later confronted Cross on Facebook to secure admissions.
The case highlighted the long-lasting effects of such abuse and the importance of coming forward.
