SUNDERLAND MAN JAILED FOR RACIST ABUSE AND VIOLENCE IN CONTROLLING RELATIONSHIP
Jamie Campbell, who has a controlling personality, subjected his partner to a traumatic and tumultuous relationship marked by violence, abuse, coercion, and the use of heinous racist language.According to prosecutor Michael Hodson, the couple started their relationship in 2017.
The court was informed that Campbell assaulted the female, who is a university graduate standing at just 4 feet 10 inches tall, threatened to kill her, and made her feel trapped, forcing her to placate his anger.
She chose to report his misconduct after realizing how deeply harmful the relationship was and what he was capable of, particularly in April of the previous year.
He pleaded guilty to charges including controlling and coercive behavior as well as assault, and was sentenced to nearly four years in prison by Newcastle Crown Court.
Campbell, aged 28 and residing on Halesworth Drive in Pennywell, also violated a previous suspended sentence, resulting in a combined sentence of 3 years and 11 months.
Judge Sarah Mallett addressed him directly, stating: "This is the conduct of someone who was completely out of control.
You repeatedly racially abused her, threatened to kill her, and made other violent threats." Evidence presented in court included video and audio recordings in which Campbell appeared extremely angry, using offensive language and racist slurs.
The victim described her relationship as a nightmare filled with emotional turbulence, where Campbell wielded control over her feelings through threats and made her feel exceptionally vulnerable.
In her impact statement, she expressed her deep care for him but acknowledged she could no longer stay due to concerns for her safety, fearing her own life was in danger.
The court also highlighted Campbell's history of violence dating back to 2017, which involved multiple police interventions due to his jealousy and anger.
During the relationship, he also threw objects and caused damage to property.
