JAMES TRIGWELL FROM FIFE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST TEENAGE GIRLS IN DUNFERMLINE AND GLASGOW

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Fife and beyond, James Trigwell, a 28-year-old man from Dunfermline, was convicted of a series of serious sexual offences involving underage girls.

The incidents spanned over a year, during which Trigwell engaged in grooming and sending explicit messages to numerous young females, many of whom were between the ages of 13 and 15.

Trigwell’s criminal activities came to light after a concerned mother discovered explicit messages on her daughter’s phone, which led to a police investigation.

It was revealed that Trigwell had contacted a total of 21 girls through the Blackberry Message service, commonly known as BBM, requesting photographs and engaging in sexually explicit conversations.

His actions demonstrated a calculated pattern of grooming, with the intent to exploit vulnerable minors.

During the court proceedings held at the High Court in Glasgow, Trigwell admitted to attempting to have sexual relations with a 13-year-old girl.

He also pleaded guilty to multiple charges of sending sexual communications to girls under 16, with the offending period spanning from August 2011 to September 2012.

The court was informed that none of the girls had ever met Trigwell in person, and he had initiated contact with them from various locations across Britain, often using false or misleading information about his age.

Prosecutors detailed how Trigwell’s messages were not only persistent but also highly explicit.

One girl, after being asked for a nude photograph, called him a paedophile and expressed her disgust.

Another girl refused to send photos but was subjected to further sexual probing, with Trigwell asking her whether she had been assaulted and encouraging her to disclose details.

Police investigations uncovered that Trigwell’s phone contained approximately 140 images of one girl, many of which depicted her naked or semi-naked, alongside a barrage of sexually explicit messages instructing her to pose and perform sex acts.

Tragically, Trigwell’s predatory behavior extended to attempting to meet one of his young victims in Pittencrieff Park, where he tried to engage in sexual activity with her without contraception.

His interactions with other girls included derogatory remarks and attempts to manipulate them into sexual acts.

One 15-year-old girl, after being told he wanted to take her virginity, told him to be ashamed of himself and to cease contact.

In response, Trigwell insulted her, calling her a “stuck up cow” and wishing that she would be raped by an older man.

Throughout the investigation, many of the girls described Trigwell’s communication as “creepy” and “weird,” with some noting that he often lied about his age to appear younger and gain their trust.

When police apprehended him, Trigwell claimed that he did not intentionally seek out underage girls but acknowledged that he knew what he was doing was wrong.

Judge Lord Pentland, presiding over the case, deferred sentencing until the following month to allow for a comprehensive background report.

In the meantime, Trigwell was remanded in custody and placed on the sex offenders’ register.

The case was welcomed by Police Scotland, which highlighted the importance of their operations targeting online child exploitation.

Detective Chief Inspector Pauline McCallum emphasized that these investigations demonstrate the seriousness with which law enforcement treats such offenses and the need for vigilant monitoring of digital platforms to prevent dangerous individuals from operating with impunity in the digital age.
