JAMES THOMSON FROM PITLOCHRY ADDED TO SEX OFFENDERS REGISTER AFTER SEXTING TEENAGER IN PERTHSHIRE

A man from Perthshire, identified as James Thomson, has been formally placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register following his appearance at Perth Sheriff Court, where he faced serious allegations related to inappropriate communications with a minor. The court proceedings revealed that Thomson, aged 24 and residing on Murray Terrace in Pitlochry, engaged in a series of explicit text exchanges with a teenage girl, who cannot be named due to legal restrictions.

According to police reports, the female involved appeared to be significantly younger than her actual age, which was a concern for law enforcement officials. Despite this, Thomson persistently asked her to send explicit photographs, including images of her wearing only underwear and, on one occasion, nude. He also made comments praising her physical appearance, describing her as having a “hot body.”

Thomson’s actions spanned from November 2, 2014, to February 2, 2016, during which he engaged in numerous text conversations with the girl, sending messages of a sexual nature. The court was informed that the two had known each other for approximately ten years, with their initial contact occurring around the summer of 2014 via Facebook. They met in person once during that summer, but thereafter, their contact was limited until late 2015.

During this period, Thomson inquired whether she was seeing anyone else and expressed a desire to meet again. Although she was initially reluctant, she eventually agreed to meet him. The text messages exchanged included discussions about what Thomson intended to do when they met, with one message referencing performing a sexual act on her. The girl confirmed that their previous meeting involved similar activities.

Further, Thomson’s messages included compliments about her appearance, such as calling her “sexy” and remarking on her “hot body.” He also requested that she send him photographs of herself in her underwear and nude. It is believed that she did send such images, although these were later deleted and could not be recovered during police investigations.

Following the report to authorities, police seized mobile phones belonging to both Thomson and the girl for examination. The case was brought before the court, where solicitor Billy Somerville indicated he would reserve his plea until next month. The sheriff ordered a Community Justice Social Work report and an assessment from the Tay Project, which specializes in rehabilitating sex offenders.

Thomson was granted bail, with the condition that he must not contact the teenager in any way while the case is ongoing. His sentencing is scheduled for August 31, when the court will determine the length of time his name will remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register, as well as other potential penalties.
