JAMES SHINER OF CREWE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND PREVIOUS CONVICTIONS

In February 2004, the wife of James Shiner, a convicted sex offender from Crewe, publicly spoke about his deceptive nature and criminal past. Shiner, 39, residing on Stoneley Avenue, was sentenced to five years in prison for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl outside the public swimming baths on Flag Lane. Additionally, he received a 20-year ban from visiting leisure facilities across England and Wales.

Shiner was convicted of groping the teenage girl after luring her from inside the baths in August. It was also revealed that he had previously served time in 1995 for rape and two other sexual offenses, and was registered as a sex offender for life.

His wife, Pamela Shiner, who married him four years prior after meeting at a charity event in a Crewe pub, expressed her feelings following the sentencing. She told the Guardian, "There are no words to describe how I felt when I found out what had happened."

She added, "He still insists he is innocent but let me put it this way – the divorce proceedings are on their way. The story he told me was very different from what came out in court. I knew that he had been convicted of rape, but he claimed it was an older woman who had framed him. He said nothing about the other sex offenses."

Pamela also shared her support system, stating, "All my friends and relatives know me and are supporting me, even some of his relatives. I just want to get my life sorted now and put this behind me."

The court heard that the victim approached Shiner on the balcony of the pool while she was watching her friends swim, and he offered her a cigarette. Outside, he claimed to be a modeling scout and complimented her appearance. Feeling intimidated and scared, the girl attempted to leave, but Shiner grabbed her and subjected her to a 10-minute sexual assault. She managed to break free by punching him and kicking him in the groin.
