JAMES SHAND AND SHOCKING PLAN IN LONDON AND NORTH WALES
A man identified as James Shand has been sentenced to prison following a disturbing sequence of events that unfolded between London and North Wales. The incident, which came to light during a court hearing at Mold Crown Court, revealed a troubling attempt by Shand to engage in illegal sexual activity with a minor.
According to the court, Shand, who resides on Southbrook Road in London and had no previous criminal convictions, traveled from London to North Wales with the intention of meeting a girl he believed to be just 13 years old.
In a highly organized police operation conducted by North Wales Police, the entire ordeal was described as a meticulously planned and executed sting.
Shand's plans were foiled when he was stopped and arrested on the A55 motorway while en route to meet his supposed young victim.
He had booked a hotel room in Warrington, and was reportedly on his way to pick up the girl in Rhyl at the time of his arrest.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Shand had admitted to attempting to meet a girl under the age of 16 for sexual purposes.
He pleaded guilty to the charge, which carried a sentence of 21 months in prison.
Additionally, the court mandated that he be listed on the sex offenders register for a period of ten years.
To further prevent any future offenses, a ten-year sexual harm prevention order was also imposed.
The court heard that when police apprehended him, Shand expressed regret by commenting, “I’ve f....
up big time.” In his police interview, he claimed he had only planned to spend a day out with the girl and stated he had booked a double bed but did not intend to engage in any sexual contact.
The court was informed that, contrary to his claims, the individual he believed he was communicating with was in fact a police officer.
Upon discovering this, Shand reportedly clapped his hands and remarked, “Well done.” Investigations revealed that Shand believed he was operating undetected and had engaged in online grooming activities directed at what he thought was a thirteen-year-old girl.
His criminal intent extended beyond the internet, as he traveled from London to North Wales solely with the purpose of meeting the supposed minor for sexual exploitation.
Such actions are taken very seriously by law enforcement, who continuously monitor online behavior for potential offenders.
Police made clear that those who exploit the internet for such heinous acts will face prosecution.
This case underscores the vigilance and dedication of law enforcement agencies in protecting vulnerable minors from online predators and highlights the importance of ongoing efforts to combat technology-facilitated crimes.
