FIFE PAEDOPHILE JAMES REEKIE SENTENCED FOR ATTEMPTED BABY RAPE AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN GLASGOW

In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of Fife, James Reekie, aged 28, from Glenrothes, has been sentenced to a decade behind bars after admitting to attempting to sexually assault an 11-month-old girl and possessing a significant collection of indecent images of children.

The incident, which took place in December 2013, involved Reekie being a guest at the child's home when he carried out the attempted assault, an act that was both depraved and deeply disturbing.

Reekie's criminal activities came to light after police investigations uncovered a disturbing cache of digital material.

Authorities seized a computer from his residence, which was found to contain 215 indecent photographs and 138 videos depicting children engaged in sexual acts or posed in explicit scenarios.

The investigation was triggered by a tip-off indicating that someone in Reekie’s household was viewing and downloading child abuse images, leading officers to scrutinize his devices.

The assault on the infant was recorded on Reekie’s mobile phone, a video lasting approximately one minute and four seconds.

The footage showed the young girl alone in a room, and it was this material that ultimately led to his arrest.

The child was promptly taken to hospital following the discovery but was found to be uninjured, a fact that provided some relief amidst the horror of the case.

During the trial at the High Court in Glasgow, Judge Lord Pentland condemned Reekie’s actions, describing the breach of trust and the depravity involved.

He stated, “You have a deviant interest in young children,” and emphasized the gravity of the offense, noting that Reekie had “progressed to sexually abusing an 11-month-old girl in a depraved and revolting manner.” The judge highlighted that the child was left alone in a house where Reekie was a guest, which represented a grievous breach of trust and demonstrated a disturbing level of planning and deviousness.

Reekie’s defense solicitor, Chris Fyffe, expressed remorse on his client’s behalf, stating, “Mr Reekie wishes to extend apologies to all those affected.

He is angry at himself.

He is deeply ashamed.” Fyffe also noted that Reekie acknowledged the need for help and expressed a desire to change.

Prosecutor Richard Goddard detailed the extent of Reekie’s digital crimes, revealing that the computer in his bedroom contained 215 indecent photos and 138 videos of children.

The investigation was initiated after police received information that someone in Reekie’s household was viewing indecent images, which led to the seizure of multiple devices, including a laptop, a mobile phone, and a computer tower.

Initially, Reekie denied any knowledge of the material but later admitted to liking girls dressed as schoolgirls and described himself as “sick.” Reekie, who was employed as a cleaner at a high school in Fife, was placed on the sex offenders’ register and faces ongoing monitoring.

Judge Lord Pentland ordered that Reekie be supervised in the community for five years following his release from prison.

The judge also expressed concern about the potential impact of his employment at Auchmuty High School, noting the possibility of overlap with pupils, which added to the seriousness of the case.

Reekie’s actions have prompted widespread condemnation, and his sentencing underscores the severity with which the justice system treats crimes involving the exploitation of children.

The case remains a stark reminder of the dangers lurking online and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable individuals from harm.
