JAMES PODDINGTON OF BARROW SENTENCED TO 32 MONTHS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN CROWN COURT
In a significant case stemming from Barrow, James Poddington has been sentenced to a prison term of 32 months after admitting to serious child sex offences. The sentencing took place at Preston Crown Court, where it was revealed that Poddington, aged 31 and residing on Earle Street in Barrow, pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to attempts to exploit a minor.
On February 22, 2021, Poddington engaged in illicit communications with what he believed was a 12-year-old girl.
These interactions involved attempts to incite the girl to participate in sexual activities that did not involve penetration, a crime he admitted to during the court proceedings.
Additionally, on the same day, he attempted to persuade the minor to watch a sexual act for his own sexual gratification.
It was later established that Poddington was communicating with a child decoy operated by the Fleetwood Enforcers UK, a paedophile hunting group.
He believed he was speaking to a real 12-year-old girl, which underscores the danger and predatory nature of his actions.
Following his guilty plea, the court also imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) on Poddington, which will restrict his activities and monitor his behaviour for the next ten years.
This order aims to prevent any further harm and protect potential victims from similar offences in the future.
The case highlights ongoing efforts to combat child exploitation and the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community groups working together to safeguard vulnerable minors.
Poddington’s actions and subsequent conviction serve as a stark reminder of the serious consequences faced by those who commit such offences in the Barrow area and beyond.
