JAMES MORAN SHOCKS GLASGOW WITH HORRIFIC SEX OFFENSES AGAINST SIX-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through Glasgow, James Moran, a 32-year-old man, was sentenced to three years in prison at Glasgow Sheriff Court for heinous crimes committed against a young girl. The offences, which took place in May, involved Moran abducting and sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl at a local primary school, an incident that has left the community deeply disturbed.
According to court reports, Moran, who was employed by Cordia and had been working at the school for approximately four to five years, held a role limited to crossing duties, furniture moving, and litter picking.
He had no direct interaction with children in his professional capacity.
Described as a “loner” with limited communication skills, Moran’s social life was notably isolated.
His routine consisted mainly of going to work, then retreating to his bedroom to watch TV, DVDs, and play video games.
On Saturdays, he would venture into the city center for a brief two-hour period to buy sweets and DVDs, highlighting his minimal social engagement.
On the day of the incident, around 10:45 a.m., the young girl left her classroom to use the toilet.
As she was returning, she encountered Moran, who took her by the hand and led her to a storage cupboard within the school—an area she had never been to before.
Prosecutor Lindsay Madden detailed that Moran did not speak during this encounter, but once inside the cupboard, he asked her to remove her clothes.
When she refused, Moran forcibly stripped her, removing her pinafore, vest, and underpants with his hands.
During this assault, he used his mobile phone to take a photograph of her in a vulnerable state.
The terrified girl managed to grab her clothes back from Moran, who then heard a noise and quickly fled the scene.
Following the incident, the girl returned to her classroom and immediately informed her teacher about what had happened.
She was able to identify Moran as her attacker, pointing him out to her teacher and later to police officers.
When law enforcement arrived, Moran was detained and taken for questioning.
An examination of his mobile phone revealed a blurred image, consistent with a quick snapshot of a naked child in a room filled with boxes, aligning with the girl’s account of events.
In a separate but related case from August 2017, Moran was also convicted of taking naked photographs of a six-year-old girl and stripping her in a school store cupboard.
The court heard that Moran ambushed the girl as she returned from the toilet, led her to the cupboard, and forcibly removed her clothing.
He then took a picture of her with his mobile phone before fleeing the scene.
The young girl, who was visibly shaken, identified Moran as her attacker, and her testimony was supported by police evidence, including the recovered images from Moran’s phone.
During the sentencing, Sheriff Alan MacKenzie described Moran’s crimes as being of “utmost gravity.” The court emphasized the severity of the offences and sentenced Moran to three years in prison.
Additionally, Moran was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, a measure that will prevent him from working with children in the future.
His lawyer, Bill McCluskey, highlighted Moran’s lack of previous convictions and his limited social interactions, noting that Moran had not sought bail to avoid further online abuse and threats directed at his family, particularly his mother, who has been subjected to online harassment following her son’s arrest.
McCluskey also pointed out that Moran’s psychiatric evaluation showed no psychological illnesses, which provided some reassurance regarding his capacity for rehabilitation.
Moran expressed a desire to resolve the matter swiftly, avoiding the trauma of a lengthy trial for the victim and her family.
The court acknowledged the seriousness of the offences and the impact on the young girl, underscoring the importance of protecting children from such predatory behavior.
