A heavily intoxicated violent individual carried out a brutal assault on the mother of his young child, striking her up to 30 times and forcing her to the ground.
James Mongan then stole her mobile phone and jewelry before threatening to drive his vehicle "through her house." According to Teesside Crown Court, the 42-year-old attacked the woman while her three children were present in her home.
Prosecutor Deborah Smithies explained that Mongan began shouting at her, insulting family members, and initiating his attack.
She recounted how he grabbed her hair, pushed her, and punched her between 25 and 30 times, resulting in a bleeding eyebrow, while also threatening to crash her house if she contacted the police.
The victim managed to escape to a neighbor’s residence to call authorities, and Mongan was detained shortly afterward.
He admitted to charges of assault causing actual bodily harm, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, and failing to provide a specimen.
He was sentenced to two years in prison, banned from driving for five years, and ordered to adhere to a ten-year restraining order.
