JAMES MILTON FROM MORAY ESCAPES JAIL AFTER BEING FOUND WITH CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AT KINLOSS BARRACKS
In a case that has shocked the local community in Moray, James Milton, a serviceman stationed at Kinloss Barracks, was found in possession of a significant amount of indecent material involving children. The incident came to light following a police raid on his military accommodation in September 2020, which uncovered a disturbing collection of digital content.
During the raid, authorities seized a total of 17 electronic devices, four of which were retained for further investigation.
Among these was a hard drive registered under Milton’s name.
The police investigation revealed that Milton had accumulated a total of 369 still images, many of which were classified as the most severe category, Category A.
These images depicted the sexual abuse and rape of young girls, a revelation that has caused considerable concern among residents and officials alike.
The case was brought before Inverness Sheriff Court in April 2022, where Milton, aged 34, faced serious charges related to the possession of child exploitation material.
The court was informed that Milton was away from his post at the time of the police search, and it was his wife who answered the door when officers arrived.
The authorities confirmed that Milton was subsequently recalled from his deployment to face the charges.
Prosecutor Martina Eastwood detailed the extent of the evidence, emphasizing that several of the images and videos recovered were graded as the most serious category, with some footage showing the rape of young girls.
The court also learned that Milton had almost an hour of video footage in addition to the hundreds of images.
Despite the gravity of the evidence, Milton was spared a custodial sentence.
Instead, he was ordered to undertake 200 hours of unpaid community service and to participate in a sex offender’s rehabilitation program.
Additionally, he was placed on the Sex Offender’s Register for three years, during which he must provide access to his electronic devices for inspection, cooperate with police inquiries, and refrain from deleting his search history.
The court’s decision was met with mixed reactions, but it underscored the importance of addressing such serious offenses with appropriate measures.
Milton’s case highlights the ongoing issues surrounding online child exploitation and the efforts of law enforcement to combat this heinous crime in Moray and beyond.
