SHOCKING ABUSE BY JAMES MCGEARY IN GLASGOW: VETERAN PENSIONER SENT TO PRISON FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Glasgow community, 88-year-old James McGeary has been convicted and remanded in custody for heinous sexual offenses committed against two young children over a period spanning more than five years.The incidents took place in McGeary's residence located in the West End of Glasgow, where he exploited the innocence of two vulnerable victims, a boy and a girl aged just five and eight at the time of the abuse.
According to court proceedings, McGeary engaged in inappropriate touching of both children during their visits to his home.
The young girl, who was terrified and confused at the time, was subjected to abuse while alone with him.
During her testimony, she recounted how McGeary told her, “This will be our little secret,” a phrase that has become emblematic of the betrayal she experienced.
It was only years later, after receiving sex education at school, that she fully understood the gravity of what had happened to her.
The victims, now aged 25 and 28, have chosen to remain anonymous for legal reasons.
They bravely appeared in Glasgow Sheriff Court to relive their traumatic experiences and to seek justice.
McGeary, a resident of Lambhill, initially denied the charges when he faced trial but was ultimately convicted by a jury of two counts of engaging in lewd, indecent, and libidinous practices.
The court found that these offenses occurred between January 1996 and December 2001, a period during which the abuse was alleged to have taken place.
The female victim described her ordeal as a “traumatic experience,” revealing that she never confided in anyone at the time due to fear and confusion.
When questioned by the prosecution about the meaning of McGeary’s phrase “their little secret,” she explained that it signified “something to be kept between myself and him,” highlighting the manipulative tactics used to silence her.
The second victim, a man now aged 25, recounted that the abuse occurred when he was in primary school.
He explained that it was during his primary seven sex education classes that he began to understand what had happened to him, indicating the early age at which the abuse took place and the lasting impact it has had on his life.
Following the conviction, Sheriff Lindsay Wood ordered McGeary to be remanded in custody.
Due to his wheelchair-bound condition, the court deferred sentencing to a later date, ensuring that justice is pursued while considering his health and circumstances.
The case has brought to light the disturbing reality of child abuse within the community and underscores the importance of vigilance and justice for victims.
