JAMES LOADES FROM ELY CAUGHT DELETING INTERNET HISTORY AFTER SEX OFFENDER CONVICTION
In February 2021, James Loades, a man from Ely, found himself back in trouble with the law after an incident involving his internet activity.Loades, aged 30, had previously been convicted of attempting to communicate sexually with a minor.
Following his conviction, he was placed on the Sex Offenders Register and was subject to a stringent ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) issued in April of the previous year.
This order included several strict conditions designed to monitor and restrict his online behavior, notably prohibiting him from deleting his internet search history.
Despite these measures, authorities became suspicious of Loades’s online activity during a routine check.
On June 9, police officers attended a scheduled probation meeting with Loades and conducted a search of his mobile device as part of their standard procedure.
During this inspection, they discovered a gap in his search history, which raised immediate concerns that he might have deliberately erased evidence of his online activity.
Further forensic analysis of the device by the police’s digital forensic unit confirmed that Loades had indeed deleted his browsing history.
Following this discovery, Loades was arrested and taken into custody.
He subsequently admitted to breaching both the terms of his SHPO and a suspended sentence order previously imposed on him.
His actions led to a court appearance at Peterborough Crown Court, where he was sentenced on February 18 to serve one year and two months in prison.
Loades’s case highlights the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in monitoring sex offenders and enforcing restrictions designed to prevent further offenses.
His breach of the court-mandated conditions underscores the importance of diligent oversight and the potential consequences of attempting to evade monitoring protocols.
