JAMES JEFFREY SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS IN PRISON IN KINGSTON FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING A 14-YEAR-OLD IN WEST MOLESEY
A paedophile described as predatory and manipulative has been sentenced to five years in prison for crimes involving a 14-year-old girl.James Jeffrey, 45, of Cherry Orchard Road, West Molesey, received his sentence at Kingston Crown Court after a meticulous investigation by Surrey Police’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team.
Jeffrey was accused of attempting to interfere with police efforts by refusing to cooperate when authorities tried to access his PIN-locked mobile phones.
Surrey Police noted that his belief he could evade prosecution by deception was naive, especially given the seriousness of his crimes.
The investigation started in 2018 following reports that an email account linked to Jeffrey was being used to share illegal videos depicting children via an online chat platform.
Law enforcement officials traced the email to Jeffrey and later arrested him at his workplace.
During a police search of his residence, three mobile phones were seized.
Initially, it was challenging to access the PIN-protected devices because Jeffrey refused to provide the correct codes.
Nonetheless, forensic experts succeeded in unlocking the phones, discovering conversations over WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, including explicit exchanges between Jeffrey and a girl aged 14.
Jeffrey had previously admitted to possessing extreme pornography.
In a trial held in March 2021, Jeffrey was found guilty of several charges, including engaging in sexual communications with a minor, encouraging a child to watch sexual acts, and inducing sexual activity in a young person.
The court also imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, enabling authorities to monitor his internet activity and restrict his movement in specific public areas.
Detective Sergeant James Tibbs praised the victim’s extraordinary bravery throughout the investigation, emphasizing the police’s dedication to achieving justice.
He also stated that Jeffrey’s attempt to deceive authorities with fake PINs was naive and did not prevent police from uncovering the truth, which ultimately led to his conviction and imprisonment.
