JAMES HUSBAND FROM YORK SENTENCED TO 17 YEARS FOR HISTORIC SEX OFFENCES AT CHRIST'S HOSPITAL SCHOOL IN HORSHAM
In a case that has spanned decades and involved meticulous police investigation, James Andrew Husband, a 68-year-old former teacher at Christ’s Hospital School in Horsham, has been handed a significant prison sentence for serious sexual offences committed against a pupil during the early 1990s.The sentencing followed a comprehensive five-week trial held at Hove Crown Court, where the court heard detailed accounts of the abuse that took place nearly three decades ago.
Husband, who resides on Wigginton Road in York, was found guilty of multiple charges related to his misconduct.
Specifically, he was convicted of five counts of indecent assault and one count of rape, all involving a girl in her mid-teens.
The offences occurred between 1990 and 1994, during which time the victim was under his care at the prestigious Christ’s Hospital School in Horsham, West Sussex.
The court sentenced Husband to a total of seventeen years in prison.
Of this, he received a twelve-and-a-half-year term for the rape conviction, reflecting the gravity of the offence.
Additionally, he was given concurrent sentences amounting to four-and-a-half years for the five counts of indecent assault.
These sentences will run simultaneously, ensuring that Husband will serve a substantial period behind bars for his crimes.
During the trial, three other counts of alleged rape involving the same girl were brought against Husband but were subsequently discontinued.
The reasons for this decision were not specified, but it marked a significant development in the case, which had already garnered considerable attention due to the nature of the allegations and the length of time since the offences occurred.
In a related development, the trial also saw the conviction of another individual, Gary Dobbie, aged 67, who resides on Rue De La Piale in Albi, France.
Dobbie was found guilty on July 6 of committing fifteen offences against eight pupils aged between 12 and 19.
The court has yet to set a date for Dobbie's sentencing, leaving the outcome of his case pending.
The proceedings highlight the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address historic abuse cases and bring justice to victims who endured years of silence.
