JAMES HURST FROM OXFORD SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS FOR MULTIPLE RAPE OFFENSES AND ASSAULTS
In a case that has shocked the community of Oxford, James Hurst, a resident of Fettiplace Road, was sentenced to a prison term of six years at Oxford Crown Court on Monday.The sentencing followed his admission to two counts of rape and an assault causing actual bodily harm (ABH) on the same woman, whose identity remains protected under legal confidentiality.
The proceedings revealed that the victim, a young woman aged 23 at the time, was first attacked in west Oxfordshire in October 2010.
Prosecutor Charles Ward-Jackson detailed the harrowing incident, stating that Hurst continued to assault her despite her crying and protesting.
The victim did not report the incident at the time, possibly due to fear or trauma, which allowed Hurst to evade immediate justice.
Hurst's violent behavior did not cease there.
On November 3 of the following year, he struck again, this time assaulting the woman physically.
According to the prosecutor, Hurst attacked her, hitting her in the face.
The victim attempted to defend herself, but Hurst responded with further violence, punching her in the face, dragging her to the ground, and biting her on the cheek.
Despite the severity of the assault, the victim chose not to make a statement to the police at that time.
However, the pattern of violence continued.
On December 10, 2011, Hurst committed another heinous act by raping the woman once more.
This time, the victim was able to raise the alarm shortly after the assault, leading to Hurst's immediate arrest.
During his initial police interview, Hurst denied the allegations, maintaining his innocence.
Nevertheless, ten days later, he requested a re-interview, during which he confessed to the crimes, expressing remorse by stating he was “very sorry about what he had done.” At the court hearing, Hurst initially pleaded not guilty but later changed his plea to guilty before the scheduled trial, acknowledging his guilt for the charges brought against him.
Judge Patrick Eccles emphasized the profound impact of Hurst’s actions, noting that the victim had suffered “considerable psychological trauma” as a result of his repeated assaults.
The judge also described the ABH incident as “a seriously unpleasant form of attack by a man upon a woman,” highlighting the brutality involved.
As part of his sentence, Hurst will be registered as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
