GLASGOW GUARD CONVICTED OF MULTIPLE RAPES AND ASSAULTS
Security guard James Haran, aged 37, was convicted of heinous sexual offenses. He followed one woman home after she rejected his advances, then pushed her inside, covered her mouth, stripped her, and raped her.
In addition, he attempted to rape another woman he met in a bar and forced himself upon her before she escaped to a neighbor for help.
The incident was confirmed at the High Court in Glasgow, where a jury found Haran guilty of raping a 43-year-old woman in her flat in Partick on May 5 of that year, and attempting to rape a 40-year-old woman in her flat in Partick on February 5 of the previous year.
The judge, Gerald Gordon QC, ordered background and risk assessments and placed him on the sex offenders register.
The court heard that the victims tried to call for help, but Haran prevented them from doing so.
Haran claimed both women had invited him and consented, but the prosecutor, Mr.
Hanretty, accused him of luring vulnerable women.
Haran denied the allegations.
Sentencing was scheduled for the following month.
