CHEF JAILED AFTER VIOLENT ATTACK ON PARTNER IN DEVON
A drunken chef named James Gibson, aged 37, from Georgeham near Braunton, became violent after a stressful day at work at the Rock Inn.
The court heard that he suddenly ranted about colleagues and launched a vicious attack on his partner, which included smashing her with a wine bottle and strangling her.
During the assault, Gibson told her "Let's break your arm" and after pushing her over and causing her to knock over dinner, he crouched in front of her and pulled her arm out straight, then hit it hard with a wine bottle.
The victim managed to escape his grip but required surgery the next day to repair her broken limb.
The incident occurred in the early hours of September 9, 2024, and was fueled by alcohol and stress, as Gibson was living a chaotic lifestyle in a tent and van.
Prosecutor Brian Fitzherbert highlighted that Gibson's stresses as a chef, often coping with cocaine, contributed to the event.
He pleaded guilty to GBH and strangulation and was sentenced by Judge James Adkin to serve two years and four months in prison.
A 10-year restraining order was also imposed, prohibiting contact with the victim.
Gibson expressed remorse and indicated he is trying to change, having been doing well in prison while awaiting sentencing.
