JAMES FORD AND HIS HORRIFIC CRIMES IN HERTFORDSHIRE
A police officer from Hertfordshire has been convicted of disturbing and grave sexual offenses, leading to a promise of a lengthy prison sentence.James Ford, aged 31, a member of Hertfordshire Police, was found guilty on multiple counts of abusing a young girl under the age of 13.
The offences included rape, sexual assault, and incitement of a minor to engage in sexual activities.
The verdict was delivered after less than a day of deliberation by the jury at Cambridge Crown Court.
James Ford, a bearded man just over three decades old, was previously based out of Bishop's Stortford.
The court found him guilty of four counts of rape, four counts of sexual assault, and two counts of encouraging or prompting a child under 13 to participate in sexual acts.
Additionally, Ford was convicted of an act intended to obstruct justice, specifically by deliberately wiping his mobile phone through a factory reset on his Samsung device, in an effort to destroy evidence.
The accusations against Ford, who served as an intervention officer with the police force, are said to have taken place between 2019 and 2021.
Hertfordshire Police confirmed that Ford had been suspended from active duty last November, following the emergence of these allegations.
In court, Judge Mr.
Justice Simon Bryan ordered Ford to remain in custody until sentencing, which was scheduled for the following Friday.
Addressing the jury, the judge emphasized that Ford was “obviously going to have a lengthy custodial sentence” and stated that the final sentencing judgment would be issued on that day.
The investigation into the case was conducted independently by specialists from the Child Abuse Investigation and Safeguarding Unit (CAISU) at Cambridgeshire Police.
Hertfordshire Police reported that the case was also referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, highlighting the seriousness of the allegations and the importance of transparency.
Furthermore, the force’s Professional Standards Department was involved to ensure proper conduct.
James Ford, who entered the force in December 2019, initially served as a uniformed response officer based in East Hertfordshire.
The gravity of his crimes has deeply disturbed the community and police officials alike.
Detective Inspector Susie Hine, leading the CAISU team at Cambridgeshire Police, commended the bravery and courage of the child victim, noting that her powerful testimony played a crucial role in securing the guilty verdict.
She stated, “Cases of this nature are both disturbing and upsetting, but I want to reassure the public that there is no hiding place for offenders, regardless of their position or status.
In this case, it was a serving police officer who now faces the consequences of his reprehensible actions.” Detective Constable Mark Williamson, involved in the case, expressed his support for the victim and highlighted the importance of reporting child abuse.
He said, “Ford has shown no remorse for his actions, but it is a testament to the victim’s strength and the diligence of the investigation team that justice has been served.
I encourage victims of child abuse to come forward and seek help from police or support services, regardless of when the incident occurred.” Hertfordshire’s Assistant Chief Constable, Genna Telfer, condemned Ford’s actions in the strongest terms.
She stated, “James Ford exploited a vulnerable victim in the most appalling way, causing immense harm and devastation.
Thanks to the victim’s courage and the thorough work of the investigators, he will now face imprisonment, which is where he belongs.
I am utterly disgusted by his behavior, and he will undergo a fast-track hearing for dismissal from the police service.” This case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to root out misconduct and protect the most vulnerable in society, reaffirming that individuals in positions of authority are not above the law when they commit such heinous crimes.
