CHILLING CRIME: JAMES DRAYCOTT OF CHESTERFIELD SENTENCED TO 21 YEARS FOR HORRIFIC SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST YOUNG GIRL
In August 2020, a deeply disturbing case emerged involving James Draycott, a resident of Chesterfield, who was convicted of a series of heinous sexual crimes committed against a young girl.The severity of his actions has shocked the local community and prompted a stern judicial response.
James Draycott, aged 36 and residing at Bevin Place, North Wingfield, was found guilty of multiple counts related to the abuse of a minor.
The court heard that he had raped his young victim on seven separate occasions, subjected her to sexual assault, and coerced her into performing perverted and sick sexual acts.
These offences were detailed during a trial at Derby Crown Court, where the jury deliberated extensively before reaching a verdict.
Initially, Draycott denied some of the charges brought against him.
However, after the trial, he was convicted of all the offences he had contested.
The court's decision was delivered by Judge Shaun Smith QC, who sentenced Draycott to a total of 21 years in prison.
The judge also emphasized that should Draycott be released on licence during his incarceration, his license period would be extended by an additional 12 months beyond the usual duration, ensuring continued supervision.
During the sentencing, Judge Smith expressed his condemnation of Draycott’s actions, stating, “You are 36 years of age.
You have never been in trouble before, although in respect of these offences of the nature you have been found guilty of, that’s less mitigation.
You are an appalling man.
You took advantage of a young girl.
You took advantage with your sexual desires towards her.” The judge highlighted the profound impact on the victim, noting that she suffered from anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of the abuse.
The court proceedings revealed that Draycott pleaded guilty to one count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, one count of sexual assault, one count of assault by penetration, and one count of sexual activity with a child.
Despite this, he maintained his innocence on other charges, including two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, two counts of sexual assault, and three counts of rape.
Nevertheless, the jury found him guilty of all these additional charges after a thorough trial.
In addition to his prison sentence, a restraining order was imposed on Draycott, and he will be subject to a lifelong sexual notification order.
These measures are intended to protect the community and prevent any further harm from the convicted individual.
The case has left a lasting scar on the community of Chesterfield, serving as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children and ensuring justice is served for victims of such heinous crimes.
