Braintree Domestic Homicide
A 37-year-old man named Jake Neate carried out a fatal stabbing of his partner, Suzanne Brown, in their Braintree home on the evening of December 15, 2017. During the attack, Ms. Brown endured 173 stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. Neate was promptly detained at the scene and faced murder charges. However, after psychiatric assessments, he was deemed unfit for trial at the time. Following a court hearing, Neate was found guilty of killing Ms. Brown, with the jury determining he was responsible for her death on January 16. It was revealed that Neate suffered from paranoid schizophrenia, which deteriorated after he was taken off medication in October 2017 due to health issues. He is currently undergoing psychiatric treatment and has been given an indefinite hospital order at Chelmsford Crown Court, ensuring he continues to receive medical care. The court and police officers expressed their condolences to Suzanne Brown’s family, noting the gravity of the crime and their relief that appropriate mental health measures are now in place.
