LONDON MINI-CAB DRIVER JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING SLEEPING WOMEN
Jahir Hussain, a mini-cab driver from Poplar, was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court after admitting to charges of rape, sexual assault, and battery following a series of assaultive incidents.
Hussain targeted vulnerable female passengers, picking them up in Old Street and then sexually abusing them while they were asleep in his vehicle.
One victim, aged 23, fell asleep and was awoken to find Hussain in the back of the car with her, having cut off her clothing and subjected her to repeated attacks, before he drove her home.
Another woman, aged 31, was similarly attacked after Hussain pretended to be her booked cab; she awoke to find him with her in the back of the car, and he later drove her to an abandoned industrial estate where she escaped.
A third victim, aged 29, also fell asleep in Hussain's cab and woke up to the same attack, after which Hussain drove her home.
Both women in the December attacks could identify Hussain’s number plate, leading to his arrest on December 3, 2016.
Forensic evidence linked him to the October attack.
Hussain pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including rape, sexual assault, and battery, and was sentenced to 12 years in prison on July 10, 2017.
He has been ordered to register as a sex offender for life and is banned from working or posing as a taxi driver or being alone with a woman unless she is a family member who has been informed of his conviction.
The police highlighted that Hussain exploited his professional role to prey on vulnerable women, and he is considered a predatory sex offender by authorities.
