JACQUELINE BLACKMORE'S HORRIFIC PET ABUSE IN MARGATE REVEALED
Jacqueline Blackmore, also known as Jacqueline Blackmore King or Blackmore Taylor, residing at Mere Gate in Margate, Kent, has been found guilty of severe animal cruelty. Her actions involved neglecting her pet dog, a Jack Russell terrier named Sammy, by confining him in deplorable conditions that caused him immense suffering.Blackmore’s neglect was first brought to the attention of the RSPCA inspectors when they discovered Sammy being kept outside her residence. The dog was in a distressing state, covered in urine stains, with overgrown nails, and suffering from a severe flea infestation. The inspectors issued a warning notice, urging Blackmore to have Sammy examined by a veterinarian to address his health issues.
However, during a follow-up visit, the situation had not improved. Sammy was found confined in a small crate within Blackmore’s living room, with no access to water or bedding. The conditions were appalling, and the dog was in obvious discomfort. Veterinarians later confirmed that Sammy was infested with hundreds of live fleas, which had caused him to chew his legs raw, resulting in inflamed, red skin. The poor animal was almost bald across his rear end and was constantly scratching and shaking, indicating severe distress.
Inspector Kirsten Ormerod, who led the investigation, recounted the distressing findings: “On October 17, my colleague was taken to see Sammy outside her property. He was in a poor condition, covered in urine stains, with overgrown nails, and suffering from an untreated flea infestation.” Despite the initial warning, Blackmore failed to take proper action, and a subsequent visit revealed that Sammy had not been taken to a vet. Additionally, it was discovered that Blackmore’s other dog, Poppy, had been euthanized due to tumors.
In early November, RSPCA officers found Sammy still confined in the tiny crate. They immediately took him to a veterinary clinic for treatment. The vets confirmed the extent of his suffering, finding 420 live fleas crawling through his fur. Sammy was treated and remained under the care of the RSPCA while investigations continued.
Following her court appearance and sentencing, the inspector emphasized the importance of responsible pet ownership. “We understand that circumstances can sometimes make caring for pets difficult, but owners have a duty to ensure their animals are free from pain and suffering. In this case, Jacqueline Blackmore clearly failed Sammy,” she stated.
Thankfully, Sammy has since recovered from his ordeal. After a month of treatment, his skin showed significant improvement, and he was moved to an RSPCA center where he was eventually rehomed. The inspector added, “Sammy is now thriving in his new home and is enjoying life. It’s heartening to see the transformation he’s made and to know he has a happy ending.”
Blackmore was sentenced to a three-year conditional discharge, ordered to pay £400 in costs, and was disqualified from owning any animals for ten years, a ban that will expire in January 2031.
