STEVENAGE MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR BRUTAL MURDER OF GIRLFRIEND
At 22 years old, Jack Wall of Hadrian's Walk, Stevenage, was convicted of killing his 19-year-old girlfriend, Amelia Arnold, during a dispute on November 8.
Evidence during the trial revealed that Wall engaged in relentless abuse, including hitting her on the head eight times with an object akin to a dumbbell and strangling her.
He also restrained her with wires from his gaming console.
Along with his uncle, Joseph Potter, Wall drove approximately 11 miles to hide her body in woodland in Hatfield, where it was uncovered three days later.
Wall admitted to manslaughter, claiming he had no intention of causing her death, but the jury did not accept this defense.
He was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 19 years for murder, as well as serving a four and a half year sentence for obstructing a coroner.
The judge, Aidan Marron QC, described Wall’s behavior as consistent with a pattern of ‘devoted’ but abusive tendencies aimed at exerting control over his partner.
The sentences are to be served at the same time.
