EX-MP JAILED FOR SEX ASSAULT ON TEENAGE BOY

A former Conservative MP has received an 18-month prison sentence after being convicted of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy.

Imran Ahmad Khan, 48, who was elected as Wakefield’s MP in 2019, was found guilty last month of forcibly touching the boy at a 2008 party.

Following his conviction, Khan was expelled from the Conservative Party and resigned from his parliamentary seat.

During his sentencing at Southwark Crown Court, judge Mr Justice Jeremy Baker stated he saw no signs of remorse from Khan.

The judge noted that the victim had been seriously emotionally affected by the incident, and that Khan’s regret was only for his own situation, many years after the event.

The judge pointed out that the assault involved a degree of brutality, with the victim appearing particularly vulnerable due to his age and innocence, as described by his mother.

Khan was aware there might be repercussions but proceeded with the act anyway.

Despite this, the judge did not categorise the crime as among the most severe.

Evidence presented at trial revealed Khan forced the boy to drink gin, took him upstairs, and asked him to watch pornography before assaulting him.

The victim, who is now 29, told the court he felt scared, vulnerable, and numb, recalling Khan’s physical contact and proximity to his genitals.

A police report was made at the time, but no charges were pursued immediately because the victim was reluctant to formalise the complaint.

It was only when Khan ran for office again in 2019 that the victim decided to report the incident.

Khan appeared emotionless during the sentencing, arriving with a walking stick and luxury shopping bags, and sat upright in the dock.

His victim watched from the gallery, often showing distress and disbelief during the court proceedings.

In an impact statement, he described how the assault worsened his mental health, leading to suicidal thoughts and difficulties in his personal and professional life.

He also expressed guilt over involving his family.

Defense lawyer Gudrun Young QC spoke of Khan’s decline from a respected politician to someone utterly disgraced, emphasising that his reputation was entirely destroyed.

The judge noted Khan’s continued lack of remorse and noted his indifference during the sentencing process.

The victim’s statement highlighted long-lasting emotional pain, including struggles with guilt.

After sentencing, the NSPCC issued a statement praising justice served and encouraging others to speak out.

Khan has already appealed his conviction, and a by-election for his parliamentary seat is scheduled for 23 June.
