2011: OLDBURY MAN JAILED AFTER TAKING PART IN BRUTAL GANG RAPE OF TEENAGER
A man aged 24 from Oldbury, who was involved in the gang rape of a teenage girl, has received an eight-year prison sentence.Ibrar Mohammed was part of a five-member group responsible for assaulting a 17-year-old girl after she was brought to a house in the vicinity.
Although Mohammed denied committing the rape, a jury at Wolverhampton Crown Court found him guilty after nearly eight hours of deliberation, along with his co-defendants Harjinder Singh, aged 25, and Haider Kanwal, aged 30.
Judge Michael Challinor stated that the young woman had been administered alcohol and drugs before the attack.
He described the offence as deliberate and well-planned, stressing the significant harm done to the entirely innocent victim.
The judge ordered Singh and Kanwal to serve eight years and also required all three to register as Sex Offenders for life.
Kanwal also pleaded guilty to producing cannabis and stealing electricity, for which he received a concurrent one-year sentence.
The defendants maintained that the sexual activity was consensual, but the court considered the offense to be extremely serious, with additional aggravating factors.
