Rapist Ibrahim Elamin, 35, of Hibbert Street, Manchester, was convicted of raping a 19-year-old victim on the Loughborough University campus in 2010.
The assault involved the victim being grabbed, taken onto the cricket pitch, and raped while returning to his accommodation.
Despite initial investigations and a DNA match at the time, no match was found on the Police National Database, allowing Elamin to evade police for over seven years.
In July of the previous year, police arrested him in Manchester, and a subsequent DNA test linked him to the 2010 offence.
Further investigations confirmed his involvement in two additional sexual assaults on the university campus.
Elamin pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault on May 8, and on May 11, he was sentenced to seven years in prison at Leicester Crown Court.
He was also sentenced to eight months for each of the other offences, to run concurrently.
The court acknowledged the impact on the victims and emphasized the importance of DNA evidence in securing his conviction, which opened the door to achieving justice for the past victim.
