SYRIAN-BORN SEX ATTACKER WHO TRIED TO RAPE STRANGER
A man convicted of attempting to sexually assault a woman in a park has been sentenced to five years in prison.Ibrahim Daly, who is 23 years old and originally from Syria, approached the woman in Glasgow Green after meeting her in the city centre and sharing a brief drink.
On the evening of May 6, 2024, they went together to the park, where Daly suddenly grabbed her, and a struggle ensued as he tried to force himself on her.
The victim managed to fight him off with bravery.
Following the assault, Daly was recorded on CCTV fleeing the scene and returning to his accommodation.
Today, he was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow after being convicted of attempted rape.
He is from Hillhead and was before the court as a first-time offender.
During the sentencing, it was noted that Daly had failed to provide honest accounts in a prior social work report, claiming he couldn’t remember the incident.
The judge mentioned that if he had been older, the sentence might have been six years, but it was reduced considering his age and sentencing guidelines for younger offenders.
A non-harassment order was also issued, prohibiting him from contacting the victim.
The court was informed that Daly left Syria in 2018, arrived in the UK in 2022, and that his leave to remain was valid until 2028, though deportation might occur after his release.
