IAN WHITTAKER AND HIS SHOCKING RAPE CRIME IN YORK

In a case that has shocked the community of York, Ian Mark Whittaker, aged 24, has been sentenced to a substantial prison term after being convicted of a brutal and calculated act of sexual violence.

The conviction follows a disturbing incident that took place during the Christmas season, where Whittaker subjected a victim to a heinous assault, employing tactics designed to silence and manipulate her.

According to court reports and prosecution statements, Whittaker used a cloth to cover the victim’s face, effectively impairing her ability to breathe and blocking her from calling for help.

During this terrifying ordeal, he also wrapped his hands around her neck, further exerting physical control over her.

The assault was premeditated, occurring in a context where he sought to dominate and intimidate his victim into submission.

In the aftermath of the assault, Whittaker did not cease his manipulative tactics.

Instead, he engaged in emotional blackmail, attempting to coerce the victim into silence by suggesting dire consequences if she chose to report the crime to the authorities.

Despite the trauma she endured, it was only after two years that she summoned the courage to go to the police, revealing the details of the attack that had haunted her for so long.

Her bravery led to Whittaker’s conviction in York Crown Court.

During her victim personal statement, she openly expressed the profound and lasting impact of the assault on her life, stating, “I will never recover from what he did.” Prosecutor David Lamb described Whittaker as a man who uses charm as a tool to conceal his dangerous nature.

“She describes him as a dangerous man, dangerous through his charm and presenting well,” Lamb said.

“He uses that to do what he wants and thinks he will pull the wool over everyone’s eyes with his charm.” The prosecution also highlighted how Whittaker attempted to turn others against the victim and made hollow promises to admit guilt in order to delay or avoid the scrutiny of giving evidence.

His failure to do so during the legal process—he denied the rape—left the victim to endure what Lamb called a harrowing experience of being cross-examined in a crowded crown court, forced to recount the details of the assault and the “disgusting things” he had inflicted upon her.

Throughout the trial, Whittaker displayed no remorse; he reportedly showed no emotion and avoided eye contact with the victim.

The judge noted the defendant’s betrayal of her trust, emphasizing how he manipulative her vulnerability for his own advantage.

Following the attack, Whittaker falsely claimed that the victim’s report would ruin his life, asserting that she was “damaged as a result of the rape and no-one else would want her.” Judge Simon Hickey condemned Whittaker’s conduct, particularly his use of emotional pressure to dissuade the victim from reporting the crime.

The court reviewed several messages sent by Whittaker to the victim, which the judge described as confessional in nature, revealing his awareness of the gravity of what he had done.

The case also brought to light a separate incident where Whittaker had again put a cloth over the victim’s face and poured water on it, further illustrating a pattern of threatening and violent behavior.

Ian Whittaker, a resident of Bransholme Drive, Clifton, was sentenced to six years and nine months in prison.

He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for life and given a lifelong ban on contacting the victim or posting about her on social media.

Despite denying the rape charges initially, the evidence presented at trial led to his conviction.

Interestingly, the court noted that behind his criminal acts, there was another side to Whittaker.

A reference from his stepfather described him as a hard-working individual with good technical skills.

It was also mentioned that, after being made redundant from a security job at York Hospital during the pandemic, he had transitioned to working as a delivery driver.

The reference added that Whittaker had matured in recent times.

Defense lawyer Katherine Robinson highlighted that Whittaker had aspirations to join the Army but now faced obstacles due to his conviction.

Notably, he has no prior criminal record, which was acknowledged during sentencing.

This case underscores the devastating effects of manipulation and violence, illustrating the profound trauma inflicted and the importance of justice for victims of such heinous crimes in York.
