IAN VARNEY CAUGHT IN CHESTERFIELD WITH DEPRAVED CHILD AND ANIMAL ABUSE VIDEOS
In July 2020, a disturbing case emerged involving Ian Varney, a resident of Chesterfield, who was found to possess a collection of highly disturbing and illegal images and videos depicting child abuse and bestiality. The case was brought before Derby Crown Court, revealing the extent of Varney's involvement in viewing and downloading depraved material that caused significant concern among law enforcement officials and the judiciary.
According to court proceedings, police investigations uncovered that Varney, aged 56 at the time, had engaged in internet searches using highly explicit and illegal terms such as “pre-teen hardcore.” These searches led to the discovery of a series of videos and images that depicted young girls as young as eight being subjected to sexual assault by adults.
The material was not only graphic but also classified as the most serious category of child abuse imagery, known as Category A.
Further analysis of the digital devices seized from Varney’s home in Copthorne Close, Holme Hall, Chesterfield, revealed a disturbing collection of content.
The police raid, conducted on September 26, 2018, involved the seizure of 17 electronic devices, which were subsequently examined by Derbyshire police experts.
The investigation uncovered a total of 65 moving images and nine still images of the most severe Category A material.
Additionally, there were six movies and 17 images classified as Category B, along with two films and 41 images categorized as Category C, indicating a range of severity in the illegal content.
Among the material found were 25 extreme pornographic movies and 32 still images depicting women engaged in sexual acts with animals, specifically dogs and horses.
The police also discovered nine prohibited images of children, which were either cartoons or of a similar nature, indicating an attempt to circumvent legal restrictions.
The internet history associated with Varney’s devices included searches for “PTHC,” an abbreviation for “pre-teen hardcore,” further emphasizing the disturbing nature of his online activity.
Prosecutor Christopher Jeyes provided graphic details of some of the most serious content found on Varney’s devices.
He described videos involving young girls as young as eight, including one titled “10-year-old Cindy plays with dad,” which depicted explicit sexual acts.
During police interviews, Varney denied any sexual interest in children, claiming that he had downloaded large quantities of pornography and had accidentally acquired the illegal material.
He also stated that he was unaware that videos of women engaging in sexual acts with animals were illegal to possess.
Varney, who has no previous convictions but reportedly suffers from health issues, pleaded guilty to five counts related to the possession of indecent images of children.
The court sentenced him to a 20-month jail term, suspended for two years, acknowledging the seriousness of the material involved.
In addition to the suspended sentence, Judge Robert Egbuna ordered Varney to complete 40 rehabilitation sessions with the probation service.
He was also issued a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and placed on the sex offender register for a decade, reflecting the gravity of his offenses and the potential risk to the community.
