IAN SAVILLE FROM HALIFAX JAILED FOR ONLINE SEX CRIMES INVOLVING HEYWOOD GIRL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities of Halifax and Heywood, a man named Ian Saville has been sentenced to prison for his involvement in heinous online sexual activities targeting a young girl. The incident came to light when the victim’s father discovered explicit messages and images on his daughter’s computer, which was located in her bedroom at their home in Heywood. On February 28, 2010, the father entered his daughter’s room and was appalled to find her engaged in online conversations with a man he later identified as Ian Saville, a 43-year-old resident of Halifax. The father immediately recognized the severity of the situation and contacted the police, who swiftly responded to the scene. The authorities traced the online activity back to Saville, who was subsequently arrested at his residence on Washington Street, Halifax, on March 15, 2010.
Investigations revealed that Saville had been in regular contact with the young girl during February 2009. During their online interactions, Saville made inappropriate comments, including calling her “sexy,” and expressed a desire to perform sexual acts on her during web chats. Both parties could see each other through webcams, and Saville repeatedly exposed himself to the girl. In a further attempt to exploit her, he persuaded her to expose herself and perform a sexual act on herself, despite knowing her age.
The police reports indicate that Saville’s actions were deliberate and predatory. His sexual misconduct was uncovered after the girl’s father intervened, and the authorities were alerted. The case was brought before Bolton Crown Court, where Saville pleaded guilty to 12 counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
On sentencing, the court handed Saville a two-year prison term. Additionally, he was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for ten years, a measure aimed at monitoring and preventing further offenses. The victim, who has been left traumatized by the ordeal, reportedly suffers from nightmares and ongoing emotional distress, as confirmed by police officials.
Detective Constable Ian Bell, from the child protection unit at Rochdale Police, expressed his condemnation of Saville’s actions. “Saville is a perverted man who has targeted a young girl for his own sick sexual gratification,” he stated. “Because of what he has done, an innocent girl has been left suffering nightmares and feeling terrified. This case highlights the dangers lurking on the internet and the importance of vigilance among parents.”
He further urged parents to be cautious about the websites their children visit and to report any concerns to the police. Authorities also encourage anyone who suspects they or someone they know may have been victimized by Saville to contact the Child Protection Unit at 0161 856 8067 for support and investigation.
