CHESHIRE MAN CONVICTED OF PARIS HOTEL MURDER OF MILLIONAIRE GIRLFRIEND
Ian Griffin, aged 45 and from Cheshire, was convicted of murdering his millionaire girlfriend, Kinga Legg, in a luxury hotel room in Paris. The incident occurred at Hotel Le Bristol, where Ms Legg was found dead with multiple injuries and over 100 marks on her body, causing her death by internal bleeding.
Griffin denied killing her, claiming he could not remember what happened and that he woke up to a chaotic room before discovering her body.
During the court proceedings, Griffin stated he always maintained that he never intended to kill Ms Legg.
He was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by the Cour d'Assises in Paris.
The court heard he fled Paris in his Porsche 911 after the murder, and he was later arrested several days later in woodland near Macclesfield, Cheshire.
Griffin had a turbulent and sometimes physically violent relationship with Ms Legg, who was a Polish-born millionaire.
She had also reportedly sent a text message to a friend prior to her death, alleging her fiancé pressured her to take an overdose of sleeping pills.
Griffin’s mental state was considered by the court, which decided that he should not benefit from a law that claims a defendant is not responsible due to psychological disorder, but they acknowledged his mental state affected his level of responsibility.
