Telford Okehampton Rapist
In a case that has shocked the communities of Okehampton and Telford, Ian Gilbertson was handed a substantial prison sentence of 13 years in March 2015 after a series of disturbing crimes involving a young girl. The court heard that Gilbertson had engaged in a prolonged pattern of grooming, manipulating, and coercing a minor over several years, beginning when she was just 11 years old and continuing until she was 16.

Throughout this period, Gilbertson subjected the girl to sexual acts during overnight fishing trips, exploiting her trust and vulnerability. The court was informed that he used threats and psychological manipulation to maintain control over her, making it difficult for her to escape his influence. The grooming process was described as calculated and persistent, with Gilbertson attempting to molest her again at the age of 15, an act he denied as attempted rape. Despite his denial, the jury found him guilty on all counts.

The judge overseeing the case highlighted the severity of Gilbertson’s breach of trust and the calculated nature of his grooming pattern. The court emphasized that such crimes cause lasting damage to victims and undermine community safety. As a result, Gilbertson was sentenced to a lengthy term behind bars, reflecting the gravity of his offenses and the need for justice for the young girl affected by his actions.
