TIDWORTH MAN CONVICTED OF STALKING AT SWINDON COURT

A man from Tidworth has been sentenced for stalking a woman over several months and repeatedly breaching a police warning not to contact her.

Ian Durkin, 37, of Daunch Close, was found guilty of stalking and breach of bail on October 14.

He was sentenced at Swindon Magistrates Court on November 19 to 36 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months.

He was also ordered to pay a £187 victim surcharge and handed a three-year restraining order.

Durkin's stalking took place between 2023 and 2024.

During this time he contacted his victim repeatedly through texts, letters, and apps despite her blocking him on multiple platforms.

He also appeared at her home several times, including on Christmas Day morning, and visited other locations where he knew she would be during the week.

Despite receiving a police warning not to contact the victim directly, Durkin continued his behaviour.

Investigator Joe Cantillon said: "Durkin’s behaviour understandably caused the victim a significant amount of stress and left her feeling frightened in her own home – the very place she should feel safe.

"By pleading not guilty he has shown no signs of remorse and no understanding of the harm he was causing to his victim.

I am pleased a restraining order has been issued.

I hope this provides some reassurance and closure to the victim in this case."
