November 2012 Dromore man escapes jail for 15,000 indecent images of children A DROMORE man who pleaded guilty to possessing more than 15,000 indecent images of children has avoided a prison term. Ian Cameron (40) of St Dympna’s Road in Dromore was imposed with a three year probation order at Omagh Crown Court on Friday after pleading guilty to 48 charges of making and possessing indecent images of children. The father-of-four was also made subject of a five year sexual offences probation order (SOPO). Appearing in the Crown Court dock in Omagh, the court heard how Cameron had created a secret partition in his computer to hide the images, which included 15,298 category one images, 20 category two and five category three images. The majority of the images depicted young girls aged 12 and 13, were accessed between August 28 2010 and October 27 2010. A further 17,000 images were also uncovered on Cameron’s computer, which while not illegal, “Certainly expressed interest in children,” according to Judge Geoffrey Millar QC. The images were uncovered in searches of the defendant’s home on October 27 2010 following intelligence supplied to police that Cameron had used an Internet account to access indecent images of children. It emerged that the 40-year-old had used search terms including “non-nude teen”, “preteen” and “lolita”, which the prosecution said were indicative of searches for indecent images. After forensic examination of the computer, 15,323 illegal images were uncovered, the majority of which were stored in a hidden partition of the computer drive, created by Cameron. He originally claimed that the hidden section was set up to hide adult pornography from his wife.
