MAN THREATENED TO STAB HIS EX-LOVER AND KILL THEIR UNBORN BABY AFTER FIVE-MONTH FLING
Ian Buchanan, a 41-year-old man from Walesmoor Avenue, Kiveton Park, was involved in a case related to harassment and threats against his former lover.
He had a five-month fling with the woman starting in November 2019, but they parted ways in March 2020.
During their relationship, Buchanan demanded she get an abortion, as he wanted nothing to do with the baby and had reconciled with his ex-partner with whom he has a daughter.
He became paranoid that news of the pregnancy might be leaked and that he would be recognized as the father, which he believed would cause issues with his daughter.
Sheffield Crown Court heard that Buchanan sent abusive and threatening text messages to his ex-lover, calling her a 'pig' and threatening to stab her and kill their unborn baby.
In April 2020, he texted her to threaten poisoning her dogs and burning her house down.
The harassment continued through May and July, with Buchanan drunkenly visiting her house to reaffirm his desire to stay anonymous as the baby's father.
He was arrested and charged with harassment with fear of violence, admitted to the offense, and was sentenced to 28 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months.
Additionally, he must complete 120 hours of unpaid work, and a five-year restraining order was issued, banning him from contacting or approaching the woman he harassed.
