FIFE MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL ATTACK ON PREGNANT PARTNER
A Fife man named Iain Wardrop, aged 39, who assaulted his pregnant partner during a series of violent incidents over five months, has been sentenced to 27 months in jail. The incidents took place at a residence in Kirkcaldy, between July 6 and December 21.
During these events, Wardrop physically attacked her partner, his then-pregnant partner, by grabbing and pulling her by the hair, repeatedly hitting her in the face, kicking her on the body, and choking her to restrict her breathing.
He also made threats of violence towards her, all leading to her injury.
His defense solicitor, Yvonne McKenna, explained that Wardrop had been in custody since December 29 and that their relationship had been volatile and passionate.
She added that Wardrop had previously worked as a scaffolder until a shoulder injury forced him to stop and that he was working longer hours at Amazon before Christmas, which contributed to his difficulty sleeping and alcohol consumption.
On the day of the assault, Wardrop reportedly took an overdose and could not recall the circumstances.
His former partner has since given birth and remains in contact with him while he is in custody.
Sheriff Craig McSherry stated that the offense warranted only a custodial sentence, which resulted in Wardrop's imprisonment for 27 months.
