MAN SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS IN PRISON FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES
Police officials have issued a heartfelt tribute to every individual who survived the heinous sexual offenses committed by Hugh Derby, following his recent sentencing to a 12-year prison term.Derby, aged 52, was convicted of multiple non-recent sexual offences involving young females across the regions of Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway.
The sentencing took place at the High Court in Edinburgh on a Tuesday, where Derby was held accountable for crimes spanning a 15-year period from 1999 to 2014.
These offences, committed against vulnerable young females, have left scars and lasting trauma on the victims, who courageously came forward to aid in bringing the offender to justice.
Detective Inspector Gavin Chisholm expressed his appreciation for the victims' bravery in recounting their experiences.
He remarked, "I want to thank each survivor of Derby's crimes who assisted us with our investigations.
This has been a very lengthy and distressing time for them to finally see their perpetrator face justice.
He will now face the consequences of his despicable actions." The senior officer further added that the resolution of this case might serve as a small measure of relief or comfort for the victims, who are now in a better position to begin the process of healing and moving forward in their lives.
The case underscores the importance of perseverance and courage by those affected, as well as the commitment of law enforcement officials to seek justice in cases of sexual abuse.
