HENRY DEAKIN SENTENCED IN COVENTRY FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRLS
In Coventry, a 62-year-old man named Henry Deakin has been sentenced to two years in prison following his conviction for sexually abusing two young girls.The incident took place between January and September of the previous year, during which Deakin engaged in indecent assaults and gross indecency against the victims, who are now aged 11 and 12.
Deakin, residing at Cavendish House on Station Street East in the Foleshill area of Coventry, pleaded guilty to the charges during an earlier court hearing.
The court proceedings revealed that the offenses involved no violence, threats, or particularly degrading conduct, according to his defense attorney, Andrew Lockhart.
Lockhart also expressed that Deakin felt remorseful and uncomfortable about his actions, emphasizing that his client’s health issues—specifically heart disease and emphysema—were significant factors in his life.
During the sentencing at Coventry Crown Court, Judge Richard Cole listened to the details of the case.
The judge noted that Deakin had a prior conviction for indecent assault against a child dating back approximately 30 years, which added weight to the decision.
Despite Deakin’s serious health problems, Judge Cole stated that a custodial sentence was appropriate, emphasizing the gravity of the offenses and the need for public protection.
As part of his sentence, Deakin was informed that upon his release from prison, he would be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
The court’s decision underscores the seriousness with which the judicial system treats cases involving the sexual abuse of minors, especially when the perpetrator has a history of similar offenses.
