NURSERY WORKER JAILED FOR SMEARING LEFTOVERS IN TODDLER'S FACE
A nursery worker has been sentenced to jail after maliciously smearing leftovers in a toddler's face while the child was in her care.CCTV footage captured Helen Walker, aged 49 and residing on Watson Avenue, Mansfield, scooping leftover food and pushing it onto the child's face, then ignoring the child's cries.
Nottinghamshire Police reported that Walker then attempted to conceal her actions by approaching another child and falsely suggesting the victim had taken the food from them.
The incident was brought to police attention on 24 February 2023 by the nursery staff, leading to the uncovering of the footage.
At Nottingham Crown Court, Walker admitted to assault, ill-treatment, and neglect of a child, resulting in a five-month jail sentence.
Law enforcement officials described her behavior as 'appalling actions,' with officers noting that she deliberately targeted a child with additional needs and then tried to cover up her misconduct by implicating another child.
Investigator Jacqui Edwards expressed her displeasure, emphasizing the betrayal of trust by nursery staff and the effort to portray the child as troublemaking.
The police confirmed that they would continue to support the child's parents throughout this process.
